Apprenticeship & Training

Building Trades Unions Craft Apprenticeship and Training can be retraced well over 100 years, and the Vancouver Island Construction Trades Unions of Today have carried on this very important role. We know an educated member is more than just a productive worker, they are an important part of the community.

The Vancouver Island - Building and Construction Trades Council represents about ten percent of all registered apprentices of the 136 apprenticeable trades on Vancouver Island, who attend the 3 recognized Trades Colleges.

  1. South Island - Camosun College in Victoria
  2. Mid-Island - Vancouver Island University/College in Nanaimo
  3. North Island - North Island College in Campbell River

Scholarships and Grants

There is a Federal Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for those interested in entering into recognized Red Seal Trades.

The Federal Apprenticeship Completion Grant is a $2,000 taxable grant for Apprentices who have obtained their Journeyman status in a Red Seal Inter-Provincial Trade.

There is a Provincial Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit available to Apprentices completing their Third and/or Fourth year of their apprentice Technical Training.
